How do the 4 Nations face-off work?
The 4 Nations Formal has an opening round Robin in which teams play three games, one against each of the other squadrons. In contrast to typical NHL regulations, round Robin matches that reach overtime play 10 minutes of sudden death hockey on 3-on-3 before they go to a three-round shootout. If the champion match goes to OT, the teams will play for 20 minutes of sudden death periods at full strength until one team scores. A victory of the regulations is worth three points, an overtime or shootout victory is worth two points, and an overtime or shooting loss is worth one point. A loss of regulation results in zero points. At the end of the Ronde Robin, the two teams with the most points go to the champion match on 20 February.
